The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Counselor Aguila Saleh, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the House of Representatives, Mr. Abdullah Al-Masri Al-Fadhil, met on Tuesday with the First Deputy Speaker of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council and President of the International Federation of Asian and African Trade Unions (IFAATU), Mr. Saud Rashid Al-Hujailan, and the Secretary-General of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council, Mr. Faez Al-Shawabkeh, to discuss the arrangements and preparations for the upcoming Asian-African Parliamentary Conference scheduled to be held in the city of Benghazi.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Speaker of the House welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation and gratitude for nominating him to chair the Asian-African Parliamentary Council and for selecting Benghazi to host this important international conference, which will be attended by speakers and representatives of Asian and African parliaments.
Counselor Aguila Saleh also affirmed Benghazi’s readiness to host this major event, noting that all technical and logistical capabilities are available and dedicated to ensuring its success, especially in light of the security, stability, reconstruction, and development currently witnessed by the city.
For their part, Mr. Saud Rashid Al-Hujailan, President of the International Federation of Asian and African Trade Unions (IFAATU), and Mr. Faez Al-Shawabkeh, Secretary-General of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council, expressed their pride and appreciation for Counselor Aguila Saleh, commending his national and Arab role. They also extended their sincere thanks and gratitude to the Chief of Staff of the House of Representatives, Mr. Abdullah Al-Masri Al-Fadhil, for the warm hospitality and generous reception, praising his efforts as a national figure with extensive parliamentary experience, along with the accompanying staff of the House of Representatives.
The meeting reviewed all details and arrangements related to hosting the Asian-African Parliamentary Conference in Benghazi, which is scheduled to take place in mid-June.
The participants also emphasized the importance of holding the conference in Benghazi following the city’s victory over terrorism, the restoration of security and stability, and the launch of reconstruction and development efforts. They further highlighted the conference’s role in strengthening cooperation between African and Asian parliaments, consolidating parliamentary partnership, and expanding prospects for joint cooperation among member states.
