Geneva – 20 October 2025
Saud Al-Hujailan, President of The International Federation of Asian and African Trade Unions IFAATU  and First Deputy President of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council, signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Joint Cooperation Agreement with the Association of Councils of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The signing took place on the sidelines of the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in the Swiss city of Geneva.

The signing ceremony was attended by a number of officials from both sides.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Association of OIC Member State Councils by its Secretary-General, Mr. Mohamed Qurayshi Nias. The agreement aims to enhance parliamentary cooperation and coordination in international forums, as well as to exchange expertise and best practices between the two sides.

Under the agreement, both parties agreed to grant each other “observer” status in the Asian-African Parliamentary Council and the Association of Councils of the Member States of the OIC. This step paves the way for expanding areas of joint coordination and supports efforts toward parliamentary integration among Asian and African countries and the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

This step comes as part of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council’s efforts to expand its international partnerships and strengthen multilateral parliamentary cooperation at both regional and international levels.
